What is “Quiet Luxury” in terms of interior design? Is it a trend or a lifestyle?

As one who had many opportunities afforded by my parent’s wealth, I always tried to keep a low profile. I wasn’t the girl with the flashy leather jacket in high school. My go to dress was a simple navy blue shift with white collar and placket that my mother helped me choose at Harrods when we visited friends in London. It traveled well, was comfortable, classic and understated. It didn’t call attention to itself. I’m only sad that it wouldn’t fit today.

The phrase “Wealth talks, money whispers.” speaks to me. Opulence and bling make me cringe a bit.

Let’s move on to what this means for interior design. It’s about celebrating the finer things of life without flaunting brands. Select well crafted furnishings to make your home inviting.

How can this goal be achieved in your home?

  1. When selecting design elements, invest in high quality materials that will stand the test of time.
  2. Defy trends                                                                                                                                                      .
  3. Opt for a minimal palette with rich accents, wonderful textures, limited prints and warm woods.
  4. Be authentic. It’s not about the approval of others, but rather what resonates with you.

  5. This is my favorite one! Invest in art. It doesn’t need to be pricey. Allow it to tell your story. Visit local galleries. Get to know the work of artists that speak to you.
  6. Strive for balance. Refine your selections.

I must admit that I have never watched “Succession”. I guess I’m avoiding being trendy. But I can certainly guide you in creating a home that honors craftsmanship and encourages you to pause and appreciate the precious things that you have chosen to bring into your world.
