Bright Ideas to Revamp Your Sunroom

It’s our favorite room of the house! My husband and I agree that now that that we’ve experienced the joy of having a sunroom, it would be at the top of our wishlist for features of a future home. For us, it is where we curl up and read – and then drift off into a nap. My husband’s ritual includes getting comfy in his leather recliner and giving the dog a good neck and butt scratch to start the day. I retire there with a glass of wine as the sun is setting. The chaise lounge is the perfect spot to enjoy the marvelous spectrum of color created by the setting sun.

Your personal reading place

If it’s your reading place, make sure that you invest in comfortable seating that supports your head. Overhead lights are not enough to illuminate your reading material. Be sure to include table lamps or floor lamps to focus on your favorite spot. You’ll also need shelves to display your books and a couple sun loving plants. It’s also nice to have a soft throw to keep you warm on cooler days.

Sunroom Design Tips & Ideas

Sunroom Decorating Tips

Or simply a quiet retreat to enjoy nature.

The sunlight coming through the windows makes it an inspiring space for a studio, office or hobby room, as well.

Whether you’ve been doing yoga for years or are simply looking for a way to release some stress, make your sunroom a tranquil space where you can lay out a mat and get in some much-needed stretching and deep breathing. Your yoga mat and weights can have a permanent spot in your sunroom corner, or you can put in some beautiful open shelves or a bureau for storage.

You’ve most likely heard that natural sunlight does the mind and body good. If so, your sunroom is the perfect place to spend your 9 to 5. Put this theory to the test by setting up your home office in this sunny escape. Place a desk or thin table near the far window, sit in your favorite comfortable chair and get to work!

Consider window treatments

Whatever way you choose to use your sunroom, you will need to consider window treatments to control the light. I love the way that airy sheer draperies soften the light. On a mild day, you can open the windows and let them flutter in the breeze. Solar or natural woven shades can also diffuse the light.

Connect with the outdoors

The beauty of a sunroom is that you are surrounded by nature. Wallcovering, drapery, pillows or rugs will botanical patterns will make this space feel like a natural extension of your yard and bring the outside in year around. Incorporate elements like outdoor furniture and potted plant to create a seamless transition between your indoor and outdoor spaces. Because the sunroom can take inspiration from nature, using pieces that have organic materials like wicker furniture can really bring the design together. For a fun twist, hang up a rattan chair in a corner for an extra nice spot that’s different from any other piece in your home.

Make life easy

An area rug will make your sunroom feel more inviting and cozy. If your family or pets are going in and out through this room, you may want to consider an easy care indoor/outdoor rug.

There are so many possibilities. For Heaven’s sake, don’t let your sunroom become your “catch all” space!

If you feel your sunroom is too far gone or unsalvageable — think again. Let me make the transition easy. Connect before the sun sets on another day. I will work closely with you to find the perfect furniture, color palette and decor to make your sunroom your new favorite spot in your home.
