Making Thanksgiving Dinner Memorable

Fall is here, and that means Thanksgiving is right around the corner. And while you may not be entertaining for a large crowd of extended friends and family this year you still want to make your holiday table special.

After all, this is where your immediate family will be gathering to enjoy their Thanksgiving meal, so it’s important to have a practical yet aesthetically pleasing setup for the occasion. If you’ve hit a roadblock in your design or are looking for a new way to stage your table, here is some inspiration that you can use for the upcoming holiday.

Get creative with your table decorations

Your dining room table is the core of a Thanksgiving gathering, and the centerpiece is the focus of it. While you can’t go wrong with a traditional centerpiece like a cornucopia or flower arrangement, why not switch things up this year?

Since we usually host the feast, I thought it would be fun to share a variety of tablescapes set in the same room, on the same table, all with my treasured Spode inherited from my mother. Yet the look is quite different.

Pumpkin Patch

This is perfect scheme for those of us who enjoy collecting. The crated grouping of old and new, ceramic and glass, large and small- makes for an eye catching display.

Bold Color and Whimsy

Harvest celebrations invite a bold autumnal color scheme. Our dining room was designed for festive gatherings. The roman shades are a lively backdrop to celebrations. The whimsical Royal Doulton Toby mug puts a smile on everyone’s face. Try using unexpected vessels for the centerpieces. In this case, I stuck fiery vermilion colored dried flowers in a pot of common philodendron and placed it in my favorite soup tureen. There would be no pumpkin soup on the menu, this time!

Nature Inspired Classic

The earthy base coordinates nicely with the jute table runner and raises the flower arrangement up so that friends and family can see one another across the table. The collections of brightly colored materials creates a joyful focal point on this holiday table.

And don’t forget to decorate your pet. They are sure to be the life of the party!

My favorite thing about Thanksgiving is that everyone celebrates it, no matter what their creed or color – or breed.

It is a special time to gather and give thanks for those who support you throughout the year.

Sending warm Thanksgiving greetings from our household to yours!

Deborah
